How to Choose the Right Heatshield Product for Your Car’s Rubber Hose Lines

Sometimes it’s the small details that make your build stand out. I initially started using Heatshield products to protect my lines from heat. Throughout my build I strive to ensure all my hoses are protected from not only heat, but also from contact with other parts of the car. I’ll admit my builds have a certain obsession with being pleasing to the eye, so bonus points to Heatshield products there. In addition to the protection Heatshield products offer, they also make all the lines aesthetically pleasing to the eyeballs. All it takes is the right sized Heatshield product and the proper clamp to secure things in place. For exhaust wrap that would be a stainless steel clamp (think metal zip tie). For rubber lines, a simple electrical heat shrink does the trick.

I’ll be focusing on rubber lines for the conversation here. Be sure to consider the temperature range that your rubber hose lines will be exposed to. Different Heatshield products are designed to withstand different temperature ranges, so it is important to choose a product that is designed to withstand the temperatures that your rubber hose lines will be exposed to. In some cases, like a fuel line near exhaust, I use Hot Rod Sleeve  covered by Fire Shield Sleeve

Different heatshield products come in different sizes, so it is important to choose a product that is the right size for your rubber hose lines. I prefer the shielding that requires the line to be plumbed through, but they also make a split sleeve that can go over existing lines that can’t be easily removed. Lava Tube and Stealth Sleeve are 2 prime examples of the split sleeve lineup.

How to Properly Install Heatshield Products on Your Car’s Rubber Hose Lines

Installing Heatshield Products on your car’s rubber hose lines is an important step in protecting your vehicle from extreme temperatures and ensuring optimal performance. This guide will provide you with the necessary steps to properly install Heatshield Products on your car’s rubber hose lines.

1. Measure the length of the hose line that needs to be covered. Measure the length of hose you intend to cover and make sure you have the right diameter sleeve. They come in multiple sizes, such a 1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″, 3/4″, etc

2. Cut the Heatshield Product to the appropriate length. Make sure to leave a few extra inches of material to ensure a secure fit.

3. Make sure the hose is clean and dry. If needed, clean the hose line with a degreaser to remove any dirt or debris.

4. For split sleeve applications, wrap the Heatshield Product around the hose line, making sure to overlap the edges of the material. For hotrod sleeve and similar, you will need to feed the hose through the sleeve. They kind of act like the old Chinese handcuffs kids had in the 80’s. It’s easier to push the hose through than try to pull it.

5. Secure the Heatshield Product in place with heat shrink.

By following these steps, you can ensure that your Heatshield Products are properly installed on your car’s rubber hose lines. This will help protect your vehicle from extreme temperatures and ensure optimal performance with good looks.
